- Two players shoot 67 to tie competitive course record -
Gibsons, B.C. (RCGA) – Sandy Harper of Winchelsea View Golf Club of Nanaimo, B.C. edged Mark Brewer of Whitevale Golf Club in Pickering, Ont. in a sudden death playoff to capture the 2007 Canadian Club Champions Championship at Sunshine Coast Golf Club in Gibsons, B.C.
Harper, fired a 3-under 69 in today’s final round to make it into a playoff with Brewer who tied the competitive course record shooting a blistering five-under 67 to finish the 72-hole tournament at 284. In the playoff Harper only needed a single hole to wash away Brewer’s dream of a second Canadian Club Champions title. Harper parred the opening playoff hole while Brewer the 1999 Canadian Club Champion bogeyed.
“It was anyone’s game,” said Harper of the final round. “I knew there were several of us battling it out for the lead but I stayed focused and plugged away. I’m proud of this title and it’s a nice honour.”
Bryan Toth of Victoria, BC representing Gorge Vale Golf Club finished in third place Toth carded back-to-back 69’s to finish with a four-day total of 285 just a stroke out of the playoff. Third round leader Adam Choy of Port Coquitlam, B.C (Pitt Meadows Golf Club) finished in fourth place at 286. David Rose of West Vancouver, B.C. (Capilano Golf & Country Club), who was a top the leader board since the opening round, fell back after a disappointing 76 to finish tied for fifth at 288.
Sunshine Coast’s Bill Sneddon used his home course knowledge to also shoot a five-under, 67 in the final round to tie the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club course record. Brewer and Sneddon now are among the competitors who have shot 67 along with Blake Mithrush who set the record in August 2006.
Following the RCGA’s Pathway to Championship, Harper has earned an exemption to compete at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, August 10-17 at Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon, Sask.

To qualify for entry into the Canadian Club Champions Championship, a player must have won either his club’s stroke or match play championship. The championship is conducted at stroke play over 72 holes and after 54 holes the field is cut to the lowest 70 scores and ties.
