The key to a strong foundation and successful player development program is dependent upon the coaches working within. Trained, experienced and educated coaches in the area of high performance are paramount to the successful execution of the Golf Canada’s strategic plan with respect to player development.
Golf Canada has been working in partnership with the Canadian PGA for the past 16 months with respect to the development of a new coaching certification program to support the game of golf. One of the initial projects was to identify golf’s Participant Development Model (PDM) click here. The PDM is merely a snapshot of who is playing the game of golf and categorizing them into one of three streams – Community Sport, Instruction, or Competition. Once this model was finalized a Coach Development Model (CDM) was created (click here to view). This became the basis for the development of the new CPGA Teaching Coaching Certification program which identifies what coaches/instructors need to know to work effectively with players. Click here to view a diagram of how the coaching model supports LTPD.
